Lady Cougars compete at Valley Mills Tournament

This weekend, the Rosebud Lott-Lady Cougars softball team participated in a tournament hosted by Valley Mills. They finished the tournament winning three of five. 

The Lady Cougars played one game on Thursday against the Copperas Cove Lady Bulldawgs JV team. Rosebud-Lott were victorious, winning 8-5. The Lady Cougars played four games on Friday, the first was the Itasca Lady Cats. Rosebud-Lott demolished Itasca 11-1.

The Lady Cougars opened up the scoring in the first inning, when Kayley Robertson hit an RBI (runs batted in) groundball single to right field, scoring the first run. The second run in the first inning came on a fielding error by Itasca. Rosebud-Lott collected six runs in the second inning. The big inning was helped by triples from Kiara Walker and Jackie Maldonado, an error on a ball put in play by Gracie Doskocil and Hailey Williams, and a home run by Jacqueline Salazar.

Salazar led the way on the mound for the Lady Cougars. The righty pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out six and walking one. The Lady Cougars had eight total hits in the game. Salazar, Walker, and Maldonado all managed multiple hits for the team. Maldonado, Walker, and Salazar each collected two hits to lead Lady Cougars. The defense for Rosebud-Lott was amazing as they didn’t commit a single error in the field. 

The next game would be on Friday against the host Valley Mills Lady Eagles. The Lady Cougars came out on top, winning 9-3. They then played again shortly after that against the Cedar Creek Lady Eagles. Rosebud-Lott handily defeated Cedar Creek 11-1.

The Lady Cougars got things started in the first inning. Gracie Doskocil drew a walk and Salazar scored on a throwing error by the Cedar Creek third basemen, scoring the first of four runs in the inning. Rosebud-Lott then scored two more runs in the second inning and another in the third. The Lady Cougars then put up four runs in the fifth inning. Jacqueline Salazar, Ava Hrabal, and Kiara Walker all contributed in the big inning with an RBI triple and a double.

Salazar led things off on the mound again for the Lady Cougars. She pitched four innings and allowed one run on two hits, striking out three and allowing no walks. Rosebud-Lott racked up 12 total hits on the day. Salazar, Illeana Rodriguez, Hrabal, and Walker all collected multiple hits. Salazar went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs to lead Lady Cougars in hits. The last game for the Lady Cougars was against the Axtell Lady Horns. Rosebud-Lott defeated Axtell 3-1. 

Next for the Lady Cougars was their first home district game of the year against the Thrall Tigresses.
