Lady Cougars defeat Milano

The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars defeated the Milano Lady Eagles in a narrow 16-15 victory this weekend.

This game was a very strange on as it took two days to finish. The game was paused in the fourth inning due to a power failure at the field and resumed early Saturday. The Lady Cougars fired up the offense in the first inning, scoring five runs. Kayley Robertson hit into a fielder’s choice, but Jacqueline Salazar came home and scored the first run. The rest of the runs in that inning came off of another fielder’s choice, an error, and a bases loaded walk.

Rosebud-Lott continued to overpower Milano as they finished the top of the fourth inning scoring four runs. The runs would come off an RBI double by Salazar and two fielding errors by Milano. The Lady Cougars were leading the Lady Eagles 13-4. It was then that the power suddenly cut off during the bottom of the fourth inning. After a long time trying to get the power back, the two teams decided to delay the game and resume the next day.

Despite falling down by nine runs in the fourth inning, Milano tried to fight back. The Lady Eagles scored 11 runs in the failed comeback attempt on a home run in the fourth, an error in the fourth, a sacrifice fly in the fifth, a walk in the sixth, and a grand slam in the sixth. Milano evened things up at 15 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game was still tied at 15 with the Lady Cougars batting in the top of the seventh. Illeana Rodriguez was the hero as she singled on line drive to left field on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring winning run.

Jacqueline Salazar was the winning pitcher for Lady Cougars. Salazar went seven innings, allowing 15 runs on ten hits and striking out seven. Rosebud-Lott had six hits in the game. Rodriguez and Jackie Maldonado each collected up multiple hits. Over the spring break the Lady Cougars took on the Tigresses of Bremond. Rosebud-Lott took a tough blow and came up short against Bremond, losing 12-3.
