Lady Cougars demolish Bartlett in district opener
The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars softball team hosted the Bartlett Lassies for their district home opener on Friday, March 7. Rosebud-Lott demolished Bartlett, winning 20-3 in three innings due to the 15-run rule being enforced.
Bartlett took advantage of some Lady Cougar errors in the top of the first inning with three runs to jump to an early 3-0 lead. Rosebud-Lott responded in the bottom of the first inning with two runs of their own to close the gap to 3-2. The runs were scored when Hayley Meadows created some two out magic, hitting an inside the park home run, then later in the inning Gracie Doskocil came home on a passed ball, scoring one run.
The Lady Cougars showed no mercy in the second inning and scored a whopping 12 runs to take a commanding 14-3 lead. Tamryn Stock, Brooke Skala, Hayley Meadows, Mekenzie Scheler, Nikayla Bravo-Hodges, Da’nyzha Wells, and Brynlee Laperouse all contributed to the runs scored in the massive inning. Rosebud-Lott piled on with six more runs in the third inning to make the score 20-3 and activate the 15 run rule. The runs came when Laperouse singled on a ground ball to center field, driving in two runs, Stock singled, bringing one run, and Brooke Skala finished the game with a three run home run.
The Lady Cougars accumulated 17 total hits in the game. Stock proved to be a tough out at the plate, leading the team with four hits in four at bats with two RBIs. Gracie Doskocil, Hayley Meadows, Da’nyzha Wells, and Brynlee Laperouse also collected multiple hits for the Lady Cougars. Mekenzie Scheler started the game in the circle for Rosebud-Lott. She allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking two.
With this victory, Rosebud-Lott has a record of 1-7 and a district record of 1-1. After falling to the Thorndale Lady Dogs on Monday, March 10, and playing the Bremond Tigers on the road Tuesday during spring break, the Lady Cougars will host the Chilton Lady Pirates. The game will be Tuesday, March 18, and is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
