Lady Cougars end season in Regional Semifinals
The Lady Cougars ended their season in the Regional Semifinals on Friday night.
The ladies traveled to Princeton on Friday, Nov. 10, to take on the Nocona Lady Indians in the Regional Semifinals. Rosebud-Lott was swept by Nocona 3-0, losing the first set 25-12, the The Lady Cougars traveled to Robinson on Tuesday, Nov. 7, to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Bosqueville in the Regional Quarterfinals.
The Lady Cougars were victorious, winning 3-1 to advance in the playoffs.
The first point of the first set went to Bosqueville. The Lady Cougars responded with a 4-0 run to lead 4-1, then Bosqueville came back and tied the set at 5. Rosebud-Lott answered that spurt with a kill by Kaitlyn Jenkins (7) for a 6-5 lead.
The set stayed even until the Lady Cougars took a 14-11 lead after two consecutive dump over kills by Kayley Robertson (3). The Lady Cougars stayed ahead with a point by Aniah Cavitt (10) to make the lead 18-13. Rosebud-Lott began to pull away and increased their lead to 23-15 on an ace from Robertson, and won the first set 25-15.
The first point of the second set went to Bosqueville. The set stayed even until Rosebud-Lott came up with a combined block from Robertson and Cavitt to take a 7-4 lead. Bosqueville clawed back and made the score 10-9, then tied the set at 11. The Lady Cougars responded with a 4-0 run to retake the lead 15-11. Rosebud-Lott continued their momentum with a point by Jenkins to take a 17-13 lead. The Lady Cougars kept up the pressure with an ace by Robertson to make it a 20-15 lead. They continued their excellent serving with another ace by Jackie Salazar (5) to grow their lead to 23-18, and held strong to win the second set 25-21.
The first point of the third set went to Bosqueville and they put themselves ahead of the Lady Cougars 8-2. Rosebud-Lott broke the drought with a kill by Jenkins for an 8-3 deficit. The Lady Cougars began to climb back with an ace by Robertson to make the score 9-5. Rosebud-Lott closed the gap with a kill by Brightan Willberg (6) to trail 12-9. Bosqueville answered with a 4-0 run to lead 16-9, but the Lady Cougars responded with two consecutive kills by Willberg to make the score 16-11. Rosebud-Lott tightened the gap and scored on a kill by Cavitt for a 21-17 deficit and rallied back to make the score 23-22. However, it wasn’t enough and Rosebud-Lott would lose the third set 25-23.
Rosebud-Lott started the third set slowly as the first three points of the fourth set went to Bosqueville and led the Lady Cougars 5-2. Rosebud-Lott clawed back with a kill by Jenkins for a 7-4 deficit. The Lady Cougars marched back and tied the set at 9 with two consecutive kills by Willberg, then took their first lead of the set 12-11. Rosebud-Lott continued to increase their lead to 16-13 on a huge kill by Gracie Doskocil (11). The Lady Bulldogs tried to rally back, but Rosebud-Lott contained their efforts with a big spike by Willberg for a 21-15 lead, and they held strong to win the fourth set 25-18 to win the game and stay alive in the playoffs.
Congratulations to the Lady Cougars on a phenomenal season as they had a spectacular playoff run and had a special year to remember.
