Lady Cougars fall in close one
The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars softball team hosted the Cameron Lady Yoe on Monday afternoon. The Lady Cougars fell to Cameron 8-7.
The first inning began with some early trouble. Pitcher, Jackie Salazar (5) allowed a double and that runner later stole third base. The Lady Cougars allowed an RBI single, then that runner stole second base. Salazar then gave up a two run home run for a 3-0 deficit. The top of the first inning ended on a strikeout.
The Lady Cougars began the bottom of the inning with a lead off walk by Salazar. She showed great base running skill and rounded home to make the score 3-1. The offense continued with singles by Kayley Robertson (13) and Illeana Rodriguez (3). They could not come home to score as the bottom of the first inning ended on a line out.
Salazar came out and pitched a shutout second inning. Mercedes Buhl (11) began the second inning reaching first base after being hit by a pitch. The offense could not bring her home as the bottom of the second inning ended on a pop out to the pitcher. Salazar allowed a leadoff single to start the third inning. She then allowed a triple, but with great defense the Lady Cougars tagged the leadoff hitter out at home. That would be all as the top of the third inning ended on a groundout. Ava Hrabal (4) led off the bottom of the inning with a walk, then stole second then third. Kiara Walker (6) would then be hit by a pitch. The offense couldn’t send them home as the bottom of the third inning ended on a groundout to the pitcher.
Salazar returned to the mound in the fourth inning allowed two consecutive walks followed by a single. The Lady Cougars would hold their ground and kept the top of the fourth inning scoreless as it ended on a groundout. Rosebud-Lott started the bottom of the inning strong with an infield single by Hailey Williams (9) and a walk by Buhl. They later scored on a bases loaded walk by Hrabal for a 3-2 deficit. Robertson came through with an infield single to tie the game at 3. That would be it as the bottom of the fourth inning ended on a groundout.
Salazar returned to the mound and allowed a leadoff walk to start the fifth inning, which was followed by a bunt single then that runner stole second base. Cameron scored on an RBI groundout for a 4-3 deficit. The Lady Yoe added another run with an RBI single to make the score 5-3. The top of the fifth inning ended on a pop out. Rosebud-Lott started the bottom of the inning with consecutive singles by Gracie Doskocil (2) and Williams. They would score on a 2 RBI single by Hrabal to tie the score at 5, which would be how the bottom of the fifth inning ended.
Salazar allowed a leadoff triple to start the sixth inning. The Lady Yoe scored on an RBI single to make it a 6-5 deficit. The damage would stop there as the top of the sixth inning ended on a groundout. Rosebud-Lott responded with an RBI double by Doskocil and an RBI single by Buhl to take a 7-6 lead. The bottom of the sixth inning ended on a pop out. The back-and-forth scoring continued as Cameron scored on an RBI single to tie the game at 7, then took the lead 8-7 after scoring on as the pitch got past the catcher. Top of the seventh came to an end on a line out to the pitcher. The Lady Cougars tried to pull off some walk off magic with runners in scoring position but came up short and would lose 8-7.
Up next for the Lady Cougars, they will be participating in Axtell Round Robin Tournament this weekend. Details on the opponents and times are yet to be announced.
