Lady Cougars fall to Riesel in district match

The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars volleyball team traveled to take on the Riesel Lady Indians on Friday, Oct. 4. 

Rosebud-Lott was defeated by Riesel, losing 3-1. 

The first three points of the first set were scored by Riesel. 

The Lady Cougars answered with two points to make the score 3-2, then Riesel responded with a 3-1 run to lead 6-3. Rosebud-Lott fought back with a block by Aniah Cavitt (10) to trail 6-5. 

The Lady Cougars continued to hold on with a kill by Kaitlyn Jenkins (7) for an 8-6 deficit, then Riesel pulled away with a 7-0 surge to lead 15-6. Rosebud-Lott clawed back with a spike from Brightan Willberg (6) to trail 16-9. 

The Lady Cougars tried to rally back and made the score 21-13, but it wasn’t enough and they fell short and lost the first set 25-19. 

The first point of the second set went to Riesel and they pulled ahead to lead 8-4. 

Rosebud-Lott answered with two consecutive kills from Jenkins to close the gap to 8-6. Jenkins continued the comeback and tied the set at 8 with an ace. The Lady Cougars took a quick lead at 9-8. Unfortunately, Riesel responded with a 5-1 run to go back ahead 14-10. Rosebud-Lott broke the drought with a tip kill by Gracie Doskocil (4) to make the score 14-11. Riesel surged ahead again and took a commanding 21-12 lead and won the second set 25-17. 

The first point of the third set was scored by Rosebud-Lott. The Lady Cougars fell behind but scored on a tip kill by Brooke Skala (9) to make it a 4-2 deficit. Rosebud-Lotts offense fired off and pulled ahead to lead 11-4. Rosebud-Lott remained aggressive with an ace by Brooklyn Ballard (13) for a 12-5 lead. The Lady Cougars stayed strong and Doskocil won the joust with a tip kill to take a 16-9 advantage. Riesel stormed back and made the score 19-16, but Rosebud-Lott halted their momentum with a block by Jenkins for a 22-20 lead. Cavitt showed great defense with another block to take make the score 24-21, and the Lady Cougars won the third set 25-22 on a kill by Jenkins. 

The first point of the fourth set went to Rosebud-Lott, then Riesel answered with a 7-3 run to take the lead 7-4. The Lady Cougars ended the drought with a spike by Ballard for a 7-5 deficit. Rosebud-Lott continued to stay in the set with a kill by Willberg to keep the score close at 11-9. The Lady Cougars showed great defense with a combined block by Skala and Ballard to trail 13-11, but Riesel responded with a 5-2 run to stay ahead 18-13. The Lady Cougars answered with a kill by Willberg to trail 20-15, then Riesel finished the fourth set with a 5-1 run to win 25-16.

With this loss, Rosebud-Lott has a record of 13-11 and a district record of 1-2. 

After playing the Marlin Lady Bulldogs at home Tuesday, the Lady Cougars will stay home to host the Bremond Lady Tigers. 

The game will be on Friday, Oct. 11, and is set for 4:30 p.m.
