Lady Cougars roll on in district play

The Lady Cougars fell to Chilton in a low scoring defensive contest 43-37 on Saturday afternoon.

The ladies travelled to Waco on Friday, Jan. 28, to take on the Meyer Lady Ravens. The Lady Cougars defeated Meyer 50-39. 

Rosebud-Lott was going to host the Chilton Lady Pirates on Friday, Feb. 4, but due to threatening weather situations, the game was moved to Saturday at 1 p.m.

Most of the first quarter stayed tight as the game stayed tied at 3 for quite some time. Chilton then went on a run and put themselves up 9-3. The first quarter ended as the deficit grew for Rosebud-Lott to 11-5, as the score was aided by free throws from LaKya Jackson (14).

The Lady Cougars started the second quarter strong as they scored on a fastbreak layup by Zakiya Larkin (5) for a score of 15-8. That was later followed by a basket by Jackson to make it a 15-11 deficit. The game went into halftime with Chilton ahead of the Lady Cougars 17-11.

The scoring in the third quarter started with a layup by Jackson for a 17-13 game, then Rosebud-Lott came back to make the score 18-17. The Lady Cougars closed the gap to one point as they scored on a basket by Catalina Resendiz (24) for a 20-19 game. Chilton then started a scoring run and grew their lead to 28-19, and continued to make the score 33-19 for the Lady Pirates. The third quarter ended with Rosebud-Lott trailing 36-19.

The fourth quarter started with a basket by Larkin making the score 36-21. That was soon followed by a three pointer by Jade Landrum (23) for a 42-28 deficit. The Lady Cougars made a run near the end of the fourth quarter and made the close but fell short as they were defeated 43-37 as Chilton then drained out the clock to hand Rosebut-Lott the loss. 

Up next for the Lady Cougars, they will head back out to Waco on Tuesday to take on the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs. Tip-off is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
