Lady Cougars sweep Marlin
On Friday, the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars traveled to Marlin to take on the Lady Bulldogs. They would sweep Marlin 3-0.
The first two points of the first set went to Rosebud-Lott. The Lady Cougars jumped up to a 6-1 lead, which was soon increased with an ace from Mercedes Buhl (11) for an 8-1 lead. Rosebud-Lott kept up their great serves with another ace by Kaitlyn Jenkins (8) for 11-2 lead, but Marlin kept fighting and came up with an ace of their own to make the score 11-5. The Lady Cougars began to try and pull away and their lead became 14-6. Marlin would come up with an impressive block for a 14-7 deficit. The Lady Cougars would pull away once more and expand their lead to 22-8 lead with a kill by Buhl, and went on to win the first set 25-9.
The first two points of the second set went to Rosebud-Lott. The set stayed even until Rosebud-Lott took an 8-5 lead. The Lady Cougars would increase their lead to 11-8 with an impressive kill by Buhl, then came up with another ace from Jackie Salazar (5) to make the score 13-8. The Rosebud-Lott lead eventually went to double digits at 19-9, and they would go on to win second set 25-11.
The first two points of the third set went to Rosebud-Lott and the Lady Cougars gained an early 5-2 lead, then it expanded to 9-3 on a kill by Brightan Willberg (9). Marlin came back and made the score 12-8, but Rosebud-Lott responded with two straight points including a kill by Jenkins for a 14-8 lead. The Lady Bulldogs would get a big block for a 14-9 deficit, but Rosebud-Lott would continue to stay aggressive and take a 17-11 with an ace from Kayley Robertson (3), then their lead grew to 21-13. Marlin continued to fight and came up with a block for a 23-14 score. Marlin tried to rally all the way back and made the score 23-17, but the Lady Cougars fended off their attack and won the third set 25-19 to complete the sweep.
After playing the Chilton Lady Pirates on Tuesday, the next game for Rosebud-Lott will be against the Iola Lady Bulldogs. The game will be on Friday at Iola and is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
