Lady Cougars win tournament
The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars volleyball team hosted an in season tournament over the weekend. The Lady Cougars were outstanding in the tournament, going 6-0 and were the champions of the tournament.
Rosebud-Lott played three games on Thursday. They’re first game was against the Milano Lady Eagles. Rosebud-Lott swept Milano 2-0, winning the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-21. Up next for the Lady Cougars was the Moody Lady Cats, and Rosebud-Lott swept Moody 2-0.
The first two points of the first set went to Rosebud-Lott. Moody responded with a 3-0 run and took the lead 3-2. The Lady Cougars responded with two points of their own with help from an ace by Ava Hrabal (2) for a 4-3 lead.
The Lady Cougars would get a kill by Brightan Willberg (6) to stay ahead 6-4, then continued to stay on the attack and grew the lead to 9-4 on an ace by Addison Wilde (4). Moody tried to come back but Kaitlyn Jenkins (7) shut their rally down with two consecutive kills to make it a 13-6 lead. Rosebud-Lott then grew their lead to double digits with two consecutive aces by Jackie Salazar (5) to give them a 19-9 lead. The Lady Cougars stayed aggressive with a kill by Willberg for a 21-10 lead, and they ended the first set on a 4-1 run to win 25-11.
The first two points of the second set went to Rosebud-Lott, the Brooke Skala (13) spiked down a nice kill for a 3-1 lead. The Lady Cats would answer with a 4-2 run and closed the gap to 6-5. Rosebud-Lott shut down their run with a kill by Aniah Cavitt (10) for a 7-5 lead. Jenkins came up big with an impressive kill to make it a 10-8 lead. Kinsley Edwards (8) also came up huge for the Lady Cougars with an ace for a 14-10 lead.
Moody tried to start a rally but it was cut short thanks to a kill by Willberg for a 17-13 lead. Salazar kept up the scoring streak with an ace to make it a 20-13 lead, which was soon followed up with a powerful spike by Willberg for a kill to make the score 21-15. Rosebud-Lott ended the second set on a 4-1 run to win 25-16.
The final game of the day for the Lady Cougars was the Marlin Lady Bulldogs. Rosebud-Lott swept Marlin 2-0, winning the first and second set 25-15. On Friday, Rosebud-Lott took a break from their tournament and traveled to face the Troy Trojannettes. Rosebud-Lott was defeated in a hard fought game 3-2. They lost the first set 25-22, won the second set 32-30, lost the third set 25-23, won the fourth set 25-21, and lost the fifth set 15-13.
On Saturday, the Lady Cougars returned to their in season tournament. Since they were 3-0 in pool play on Thursday, they went into their bracket as the top seed. Their first game of the day was the Chilton Lady Pirates.
Rosebud-Lott swept Chilton 2-0, winning the first set 25-9 and the second set 25-15. They moved on to face the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals. Rosebud-Lott swept Bosqueville 2-0, winning the first set 25-21 and the second set 25-22. With that win, the Lady Cougars advanced to the championship game against the Milano Lady Eagles. Rosebud-Lott was victorious, defeating Milano 2-1. They won the first set 25-21, lost the second set 25-21, and won the third set 25-23.
After a road matchup against Waco Liberty, the Lady Cougars will host the Groesbeck Lady Goats. The game will be on Friday and is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
