Last Week’s Games Had Bubbles Humming that Old Meat Loaf Tune …
Hello Sports Fans. Well, sometimes you get the hare and sometimes the hare gets you (although I gotta say – never really understood that. I mean them jackalopes out in West Texas can be kinda tough, but a bunny getting someone? Really?).
Whatever it is, it certainly got ol’ Bubbles last week. I missed three out of four games and didn’t even come close in those three.
Fortunately, I got the Yoes 100 percent right – and CHS fans might be excited this week as well. But when it comes to Thorndale, Marlin and Rosebud-Lott, well, a wet firecracker had more pop than I did last week.
What say we bury that sucker – you know, much like most Cowboy fans want to do with Matt Eberflus after the ‘Boys gave up 31 points to what had been the winless Chicago Bears? So we’re moving on and looking forward to a new week.
Mexia at Cameron
I hated picking against the Yoe Yoemen last week, but I said Lorena would be too much and unfortunately they were. Be mad at me if you want, but so far this season Bubbles has been perfect on games involving CHS.
That’s likely to continue this week – but I don’t think you’re going to be mad about it. On tap is a home game against the Blackcats from Mexia. I suspect that everyone will remember the 35-0 beatdown Mexia laid on CHS last year at their place – and the Yoemen are looking to return the favor. Fear not Grey and Maroon fans, the Yoemen may not be ready to add their fifth state title on the gridiron yet, but they’re ready for this one. Take CHS by two scores.
Marlin at West
You know you got no respect when you are the Homecoming opponent. Unfortunately, that’s the position our Bulldogs are in as 0-4 Marlin travels to 3A West. The Trojans aren’t having a bad season either. After opening the year with a 35-7 loss to Robinson, West has reeled off three straight victories. Of course the news hasn’t been near as good for our 2A Marlin Bulldogs. Marlin fell by three TDs last Friday night to Hearne, and that was their closest game of the season. Hate to do it, but I got to go with a happy Homecoming. Take West by 16.
Normangee at Rosebud-Lott
I was doing so good with Rosebud-Lott this year. Perfect, in fact, if I do say so myself. And I predicted a nine-point Cougar win against Bosqueville and R-L didn’t win. It lost by 14! Talk about missing the boat! Up this week is a visit from Normangee. You know, the Panthers may be 2-2 but they aren’t exactly striking fear in the heart . . . if you know what I’m saying. I am looking for the Cougars and the Cauldron to get back to our winning ways. Watch Rosebud-Lott H.S. improve to 4-1 with an easy 28-point victory.
Thorndale at Hempstead
The Hempstead Bobcats are exactly what the doctor ordered after a really tough 54-21 loss to Commissioner Gordon (Holy Defense, Batman! What happened!)
Hempstead is winless and is giving up just shy of 50 points a game. Yes, I said a fifty-burger.
Thorndale – as we know – is 2-2 and will get a road win this week so the Bulldogs will have a little momentum heading into District play next week against the Punchers of Mason. (Not going to give anything away yet, but a little birdie says T’Dale might continue riding that momentum wave for a bit. Just saying.) But enough teasing to the future. For this week, it’s all Thorndale by a safe 30 points.
