RL Cougars are back on track

All it takes is the return of your field general for the troops to get it right. On Friday night the Rosebud Lott Cougars got the adrenaline injection of having quarterback JaQuorion Johnson return to the lineup.

His presence will be needed when the team prepares for district. They have a final road trip to Meridian. Meridian knows it will have a dogfight on its’ hands in district with Hubbard, Bremond, and Chilton looming ahead but they had best not look past the Rolo Coogs and Johnson.

They have a special guy at quarterback in John Anderson, who totaled over 2400 yards of offense last season and 29 touchdowns in 2016. Most of his targets from last season graduated but receiver Derek Malott returns, as does running back Nathan Lira.

A strong performance from newcomer De’Marius Parks could provide an additional boost for the offense. With 4 starters back on defense the Yellow Jackets are solid at linebacker and at safety but will have to break in 7 new starters. That could prove crucial as they attempt to control the Cougars’ elusive Johnson.

The Cougars’ backfield has been dynamic with backs Ty Stock and Cody Wells providing some outside presence, while fullback Ethan Easley blasts his way inside. It will be a battle of two teams with high expectations for this season.

You could see the noticeable pep in the step of the Rosebud-Lott Cougars on offense Friday night when they played host to Central Texas Christian and it wasn’t all because it was homecoming either.

In the huddle was a familiar face and he wasted little time in making his presence known breaking off a 93-yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter to give the Coogs an early 7-0 lead.

He would punch another one in from 11 yards out and kicker Ty Stock would add 2 extra points and a 24 yard field goal to give the Coogs a 17-8 halftime lead. Fullback Easley would add two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter to build the Rosebud lead to 29-8 and put the game away.

After Central Texas scored, Johnson would finish off the scoring for the Coogs with a 14-yard touchdown run. Johnson would finish the night with 19 carries for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns. Easley added another 78 yards on 18 carries and scored twice. The win moves the Rosebud-Lott record on the season to 3-1.
