Rosebud-Lott Cougars split series with Milano

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars hosted the Milano Eagles on Saturday, April 9. Rosebud-Lott defeated Milano 13-7. 

The Cougars played the Eagles again, this time at Milano on Monday. After nine innings, Rosebud-Lott fell to Milano 6-5 in walk off fashion on the final play of the game. Milano got on the scoreboard first in the second inning, scoring one run. The Eagles drove in that run when they singled to right field. The Cougars tied the game at one in the fourth inning when Nolan Kahlig scored on passed ball, then Milano retook the lead 2-1 in the fifth inning. 

Rosebud-Lott scored four runs in the sixth inning for a 5-2 lead. The offensive firepower by the Cougars was led by Rawling Barton and Logan Kleypas, all driving in runs in the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Milano tied things up at five with a double and a two run home run. The game was tied at five with Milano batting in the bottom of the ninth when the Eagles singled on a ground ball to left field, scoring the game winning run and giving the Cougars a gut wrenching loss. 

Jeremey Ellison was on the pitcher’s mound for Rosebud-Lott. Ellison lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out three. Rawling Barton threw one and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen. The Cougars then hosted the Bartlett Bulldogs on Thursday. 

Rosebud-Lott defeated the Bulldogs 11-5. The Bartlett Bulldogs Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Rosebud-Lott. The Bulldogs scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Rosebud-Lott responded with three of their own. The Cougars scored on a walk by Nolan Kahlig as he was hit by a pitch, a single by Ben Ford, and a sacrifice fly by Rawling Barton.

The Cougars took the lead for good with five runs in the second inning. In that second Lewis hit a two run home run and Barton hit an RBI ground out. Jordyn Barrientos also scored with an RBI groundout and Jeremey Ellison contributed with a sacrifice fly. 

Rosebud-Lott saw the ball well, racking up eight hits in the game. Lewis and Ford each racked up multiple hits for the Cougars. Lewis led the team with three hits in four at bats.  Lewis also led Rosebud-Lott with five stolen bases, as the team ran wild on the base paths with 11 stolen bases. Ben Ford got the start on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. The lefty lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four and walking zero.
