What a comeback for the Ladies

Sometimes in sports you lose games that you feel you had no business losing but then there are those games that you somehow manage to pull a victory from the very jaws of defeat.

On this past Tuesday, the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars were staring defeat dead in the face against an aggressive squad from Bremond. The Lady Tigers came out with seemingly a mission in mind and took the first two games of the match against the Lady Coogs by scores of 25-22 and 25-21.

In a best of five matches, losing the first two games puts you in a hole. Not only were the Lady Coogs now down 2 games to none but they were within two points of losing game three when they finally rallied to take a 25-23 victory.

That still left them trailing 2-1 in games and facing another, must win in game four. They continued the momentum they gained in game three and won game four by a score of 25-17. They then finished off the comeback with another heart stopping win 16-14 in game five.

It was a big victory as both teams entered the game tied with the Moody Lady Bearcats for the district lead. With the win the Lady Coogs stayed tied for the top with a 4-0 record while Bremond fell to 3-1 a game behind the two leaders.

Seniors Ashley Sterner, Lexi Hughes, and Rebecca Bennett led the Rolo Coogs attack.  However, Lady Coogs can’t celebrate or enjoy this win to long because they have a Friday date with coleader Moody.

The Lady Coogs never seemed to get their act together on Friday facing Moody. They struggled from the outset with their focus and it carried over throughout the match. They would end up losing in three games 25-13, 25-9, and 25-16. It was frustrating for the team and Coach Spencer but you have those nights in sports too, where you just don’t play well.

With veteran leadership the Lady Cougars should have no problem regrouping before their next game.

They have two district matches this week a home game on Tuesday against Chilton and a road game on Friday against Bosqueville.
