Independence Day

The City of Marlin invites you to participate in an exciting and festive Independence Day celebration. This year’s event, Celebrate America/Marlin Fest, will take place during the entire day of July 3 at City Park in Marlin.

There will be vendors and craftspeople, and yummy food trucks offering a unique experience for our community. We will also host a classic car show, a horseshoe competition, youth fishing tournament, music by DJ Scruggs and The Lone Star Souvenirs, a fireworks display, a huge bouncy house and other fun family events specifically for children.

This is the first memorable event our area will have as an opportunity to enjoy a community-wide celebration since COVID impacted our heartland last year. We welcome your participation to make this celebration a spectacular event, and we look forward to celebrating America and Marlin with you.

Road Open

FM 413 bridge over the Brazos River between Rosebud and Reagan was reopened last week. This is welcome news for truckers, commuters and especially the farmers and ranchers in south Falls County who faced detours of more than an hour when moving farm equipment across the river.  With grass fire season upon us, an important road link that enables mutual aid between fire departments on opposite sides of the river has also been reestablished.

The retail section of the store is open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It will be open Saturdays as long as there are volunteers. The Central Texas Food Bank will continue with monthly distribution on the fourth Friday of every month, typically in the Marlin High School parking lot.

Donations needed for park upgrades

The board of the Rosebud Parks and Recreation has been funding the THRIVE parks improvement plan for over six years through donations, so the Town Square Community Foundation created a GoFundMe to help finish out Phase One. Any funds donated will be used to help finish the creative play areas, fitness stations, and walking trail. Construction on the project has already begun and the campaign has raised over 75 percent of funds needed, but still needs help reaching the finish line. As of June 8, the campaign had a total of seven donations, totalling $670 of the $7,500 goal.

“Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me,” stated Matthew Wright, avid community advocate, on the donation page.

Phase Two and beyond look to add a splash pad and other playground equipment. By the end of it, the plan will see restoration of the last two Bow String Bridges in the State of Texas.
