Free Family History Workshop with the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution (TXDAR)

Austin, TX – Join us on site at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) in Austin on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a userfriendly workshop on tracing your family lineage back to the era of the American Revolution in 1776. Guest speakers from the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution will discuss the organization, along with the resources they offer for genealogy research.

County Election Prep: Know Who’s Running

The March 3 Republican Primary election will be here before we know it, and since the filing deadline has passed, we wanted to share a comprehensive list of Falls County candidates that will appear on the ballot when voters head to the polls. All candidates listed below are registered Republicans, except for a lone Democrat on the ballot, F.A. Green, Sr., who currently holds the Falls County Commissioner Pct. 2 position. He is being challenged by a Republican opponent (David Fitz).

Texas Crepe Myrtle is “Queen of the South”

Is it spelled “Crepe Myrtle” or “Crape Myrtle”? The flower is named after the blooms, which resemble crepe paper, and because of that, I have always spelled it as “crepe”. Historically, though, “crape” has been preferred, and either spelling is accepted.

Falls Co. Food Spots: Lakeview Drive-Inn

Editor’s Note: I am eagerly starting the task of eating through all the local, non-fast-food eateries in Falls County, as part of my goal to get more familiar with the area. I’ve started compiling a list of places to visit, but please, feel free and encouraged to email me at publisher@marlindemocrat. com with restaurant suggestions, and your favorite menu items! I plan to rotate between Marlin, Rosebud, and other places in the county, highlighting one location per week until I’ve tried them all.
