Falls County Veterans Gather for Ceremony

About 30 veterans and community members attended the Veterans Day Celebration at Falls County Courthouse on November 11, 2025, sponsored by the Historical Commission and American Legion Post 31. The brisk, windy weather prompted organizers to move the event inside, where County Judge Jay Elliot, American Legion Post 31 Commander Fred Ormsby, Falls County Historical Commission Chairman Trudie Asbury and Vice Chair Elizabeth Nelson each shared stories, prayers and poems to honor and recognize the military service of all veterans, with special thanks to the local veterans.

How to Help Aging Veterans

According to data from the Department of Veterans Affairs, surveys from the Pew Research Center and the U.S. Census Bureau, there were more than 18 million living military veterans in the United States by the end of 2023. Seventy-two percent of those veterans are age 50 and older, and many served during wartime.
